Am I Your Therapist?

I think we have to be open about the place of struggle to be, and find and know yourself. And for me, a lot of that comes… from therapy.

Finding the right therapist for you is incredibly important.

Research has shown that the most healing part of therapy is the therapeutic relationship itself. That means that our connection will be the basis for your healing.

I respect this research and deeply value the relationship we will develop.

This is a time to “selfishly” consider your preferences and needs, even making financial or time constraints secondary to feeling that special vibe.

If you want to change your life, there is no “best” therapist… only the best therapist for you.

Getting to know each other…

Our journey together will begin as I learn about your life and who you are (and your partner) as a whole person. This will include assessing every part of your life: thoughts, feelings, desires, hopes, dreams, habits, relationships, food, identity, sexuality, spirituality… everything.

We will also learn about your strengths, family legacies of resistance, and community resources. I want to fully understand what you have been through, how you get through the day and your vision for your future.

You’ll also learn those things about me as a therapist.

We’ll also clarify what successful therapy looks like for you.

This might mean having fewer intrusive thoughts…

Consistently setting boundaries with work…

Incorporating regular exercise into your self-care routine…

Or having sex at least twice a week with your partner.

Once we have a shared understanding of those goals, we’ll identify the techniques that will work best to move your life forward.

As for how long you’ll be in therapy…

In the beginning, I think it is important to meet once or twice a week, depending on your needs. As you become stable and start moving to a better place, we can reduce it to every two weeks. As you progress further, we can meet just once a month, as long as you consistently maintain the practices we created together.

At any time, you can also take advantage of 25-minute “support sessions” to help you complete homework or handle unexpected distress. These can be scheduled regularly or as needed.

During our time together, you can be sure that I will be working hard to ensure that WE are moving forward and that therapy gives you the desired results.

We will know it is time for you to graduate from therapy when you feel better and can confidently build the life and relationship of your dreams.

You are here for a reason.

Put yourself first.

The present moment is full of opportunity. Decide in this moment to commit to yourself. Trust that you can do what it takes to make deep, lasting change.
